One Person’s Nightmare House is Another’s Dream Home

It’s never too late to find your dream home. For my friend, interior designer Mitzi Beach, the dream was cover under a lot of peeling paint, overgrown jungle-like landscape and rotting boards. Even though she and her husband were in retirement age, they threw themselves into tackling this dilapidated dwelling. Their friends thought Bob and Mitzi had fallen off the deep end but using  a lot of sweat equity this couple tuned an ugly duckling into a wonderful place they named Living Cypress.

See for your self how changing zip codes can be an arduous act of love and creativity at any age.

Cypress, this is what we call our beloved home, and I truly do mean “beloved” after all we went through to get it this far along!

EVERYONE thought we were CRAZY!!! Oyoe…what a story you will hear about the condition this house was in, that it wasn’t even for sale! Oh, and by the way, we put an offer in with our sales realtor BEFORE we ever stepped inside!

Bob and I were going into our baby boomer sixties — which made everyone really scratch their heads about taking on such a HUGE undertaking at our age. We actually took an amazing leap of faith totally and firmly believing that we were not only to buy, “renovate”, and redesign, but to also restore Cypress to its original beauty as best as we could.

You will be seeing a lot of Bob-Bob, my devoted husband of over forty years. Grandchildren call him Bob-Bob and so he will forever be Bob-Bob to you as he perseveres to “keep on keeping on” to someday finish our sanctuary. We do honestly believe that Cypress is a sanctuary…not just to us, but to many, many others already and to many more in the future.

It took years of time, money, sweat, and tears as we tried to encourage each other through many periods of doubt and really, all out panic. Going TOTALLY out of your comfort zone will do that to you for sure.

So stay connected to LIVING CYPRESS to see what’s been done, what’s yet to do, how and why we used certain elements of green design and aging in place principles and lots of other behind-the-scenes stuff.

CYPRESS is indeed a “LIVING LAB”. It will be my great pleasure to share all there is to see and to know about this restored sanctuary home with you. My hope and purpose is for you to see and consider all that our personal spaces can be to you and your loved ones.

Living and loving life together,
